Flannery’s goal was followed by a goal from Melissa Patterson, who put up a fantastic fight up front. The third goal was scored by Anna Tully and was well deserved, as she put up a blinding performance at left wing. The fourth goal was scored again by Melissa Patterson. However Patterson did not obtain a hat-trick as the fifth goal was scored by Kirstin Sheerin. Sheerin, who put up a fantastic performance in goal last year, played centre field and demonstrated remarkable skill and endurance. Davitt will go on to play Ursuline College, Sligo, to qualify for the Connacht quarter finals.

There were great celebrations in two Castlebar schools last week as Mariyah Zia Janjua from St Joseph’s Secondary School, and Team Envirobriq, from St Gerald’s College made it through to the national final of the Green Dragon Secondary Schools Innovation Challenge. These students really impressed the dragons at the Connacht/Ulster regional heat with their innovative ideas in the environmental category and will be hoping to do the same at the national final in Croke Park on March 26. Here they will battle it out with 25 other finalists in a bid to lay claim to the top prize of €8,000 in development funds to bring their idea to the market.
